A showcase kitchen with the utility and comfort required of a family home. Custom teak cabinetry beautifully conceals generous storage.
Bay-View Remodel, San Mateo
This full remodel transformed a longtime family residence, preserving only the original fireplace and chimney while upgrading every other aspect of the property.
The kitchen and bathrooms were relocated to create a more intuitive layout and stronger connection between the home’s shared living spaces. At the heart of the remodel, the kitchen pays homage to the home’s midcentury roots with bespoke flat-panel teak cabinetry and a custom range hood surround. Inspired by the original 1950s cupboards, the warm, durable wood brings timeless character while naturally resisting moisture and everyday wear. A vivid tile backsplash in Heath Ceramics Jade anchors the space and complements the wood tones.
An expansion above the garage captures sweeping bay views, introducing generous new living areas and extending the home’s relationship to the outdoors. Custom millwork throughout the home speaks a cohesive material language—from a teak room divider with integrated record storage that defines the living area, to built-in work surfaces, and custom modernist nightstands. Together, these crafted details bring warmth, function, and ongoing enjoyment to every room.Floor-to-ceiling cabinets act as pantry storage.
Tidy pocket doors conceal a dedicated coffee/tea bar for morning pick-me-ups.
