An updated exterior paint palette stands out among a block of historic Victorians.
Updated Victorian, San Francisco
This century-old Victorian home in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood was thoughtfully expanded into a three-story residence through a close collaboration with local architect Judith Mathingly. The result is a property recast for 21st-century living while meeting the neighborhood's exacting preservation standards.
The new upper level introduces two additional bedrooms, a primary suite, a dedicated office, and a rooftop deck that extends the home’s living experience above the city. Within the primary suite, a custom walk-in closet smartly accommodates dual workstations, while new windows frame sweeping views of the San Francisco skyline. Throughout the home, bespoke millwork elevates everyday spaces to showcase-level sophistication, from the kitchen cabinetry and bar, to the closet built-ins and bathroom vanities.
Crowning the renovation is the rooftop deck, designed as a destination for gathering and entertaining. Accessed by a sculptural floating staircase that sits illuminated beneath a motorized skylight, the transition from indoor to outdoor becomes one of the home's most memorable architectural moments. Custom built-ins provide multifunctional display and storage space in the dining room.
